I used the Netscape download to get the old Real Player 8 back, and believe me, on my computer there is no comparison on the speed. The only problem is Course 1 sound files would have to be redone since we didn't save the originals! I (YesJapan) have been considering making the move to MP3 sound files.

i think it is just a bad software company. (slow) but if i need real player to learn Japanese, then i guess i have no choice! Id live with slow Real one to learn japanese any day! Anyways, i dont think this slowness is on the fault of Yesjapan. I have always HATED real player because all of their software is laggy. I have a fast computer, and i still noticed slower preformance with real one. So the problem could be the actual speed of your computer. I used to experience this problem with many pieces of software, new software, like media players, usually need more than the last. As new software comes out, they always make the new versions more processor intensive. Hey, these files on this site and really small, so your dial-up connection would not be the problem. If you still want it from me contact me on American Online's FREE Instant Messenger Program available at My user name is YesJapan and I am online all the time pretty much. If you down load the new version of Netscape Navigator Real Player 8 is included with it. I actually also found a way to get it online. I realize you are busy, but if you could get back to me on the real player thing I would really be very appreciative. I emailed you yesterday, but I guess you did not check it. I am interested in trying to get the old version again though, because for me it really is much faster, so I think I will contact you. It still seems pretty slow, although I decided that even if I keep having this problem I'm going to stick with trying to learn on YesJapan. I have the old version on CD if you want to contact me privately at I will gladly send you a copy over AIM or something. I wonder if other students can comment on if they have seen this problem. I have the new real player on another computer here and it seemed just as fast. This may be a result of our server problems that started about 10 days ago. Has anyone else had similar complaints? Would paying more for a faster internet connection alleviate my problems? Do you know of anyway I could get the old version of Real Player back? I would really appreciate your best answer to these questions. This connection did work fine with the old version of real player, though, and it has been only since I downloaded the new version that I have had these problems. Part of the problem might be my internet connection, it is a very slow dial-up connection. I have even contemplated cancelling my YesJapan account, which I thought I would never do until I was fluent. This is really very hard and frustrating for me, and is really ruining my learning experience. Clips that should play in virtually no time take about 15 seconds to load. Now that I am using this new version to play sound files on YesJapan, it works, just not very well. Also the old version of Real Player is no longer available on.

When you download this player you are required to delete your old player before you can install it, so I did that.

I assumed that this player was just as good or better as the old one, plus it could be used to burn CDs, which I wanted to do, so I downloaded it. Real Player which is used to play the clips on this site just came out with a new player called the Real One player.
